The term 'public purpose' means strategic purposes such as armed forces, national security, infrastructure and industry, where benefits largely accrue to the general public, land acquired for resettlement and rehabilitation purposes, the order said today.
The order said an Empowered Committee headed by Chief Commissioner of Land Administration will be formed to scrutinise the proposals for alienation of Government land to various industries, educational institutions, religious/ charitable institutions, NGOs and private persons.
The Government land shall be allotted only for public purposes.
The village or urban sites can also be allotted for planned development
