AP govt to launch special scheme for BPL families on 'Ugadi'

The N Kiran Kumar Reddy-led Congress government in Andhra Pradesh is launching a special scheme wherein nine essential commodities will be supplied monthly to white ration card-holders at a subsidised rate.

Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy will formally launch the scheme titled "Amma Hastham" (mother's hand) tomorrow on the occasion of Telugu New Year 'Ugadi' here.

Under the scheme, 2.25 crore holders of ration cards (families below the poverty line) in the state would be supplied nine essential commodities in a single package every month for Rs 185 against the market price of Rs 292, said a release from the Chief Minister's Office.
 

This would benefit about 7.5 crore people, almost 90 per cent of the state's population, the release said.

The pack would include tur dal (one kg), palmolein oil (one litre), whole meal atta and wheat (one kg each), sugar (half kilo), iodised salt (one kg), chilli powder (250 gms), tamarind (half kilo) and turmeric powder (100 gms), it said, adding the quality of the products would also be maintained.
