Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister N Chinarajappa today inspected a hostel for Backward Class (BC) students and ticked off the management staff for the poor upkeep of the Government-run facility.

Chinarajappa, who also holds the Home portfolio, asked East Godavari District Collector Neetu Prasad to appoint an officer to inquire into the state of affairs at the hostel in Peddapuram near here and take strong action against those responsible for lack of facilities for students staying there, official sources said.

Chinarajappa paid a surprise visit to the hotel after getting complaints about poor maintenance, substandard food quality and crumbling infrastructure facilities at the hostel, they said.

The Minister tasted the food cooked for students and expressed anguish over its quality. He asked the hostel warden reasons for preparing poor quality food. He later visited the hostel rooms, toilets and expressed displeasure over their miserable maintenance, the sources said.

Chinarajappa immediately called the Collector on phone and directed her to order an inquiry into the problems being faced by the hostel.

Later speaking to reporters, he said the Government is taking all necessary steps to provide 24-hour power supply to all in the State.
