Andhra Pradesh minister P Narayana's 22-year-old son and his friend were killed when their car rammed into a pillar constructed for ongoing Metro rail project in Jubilee Hills area here early today, the police said.

The accident occurred around 3 AM when the SUV, being driven by the municipal administration minister's son Nishith Narayana, hit the pillar near a curve, Deputy Commissioner of Police (west zone) A Venkateshwar Rao told PTI.

Nishith and his friend Ravi Verma (24) died on the spot, the officer said.

"The vehicle was being driven at a high speed at the time of the incident ... May be he (Nishith) lost control (of the SUV) and the four-wheeler hit the pillar. Our police personnel who were on patrolling duty immediately shifted them to a nearby private hospital where doctors declared them brought dead," the DCP said.

The impact of the accident was such that police faced difficulty in removing the bodies from the damaged vehicle.

Asked about certain reports of the accident being a case of drunken driving, Rao said, "We will be able to confirm it only on the basis of doctors' opinion after the post mortem report".

Autopsy was conducted on the bodies at a private hospital in the city by the government doctors.

Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister N Chinarajappa said Nishith's body will be shifted to Nellore for last rites.

Jubilee Hills police station inspector S Venkat Reddy said they have registered a case in connection with the accident and are awaiting the autopsy report.

Meanwhile, a senior doctor at the private hospital where Nishith and Verma were taken to after the accident said it appeared that the fast speed of the vehicle led to its crash.

"The steering wheel got stuck into the driver's chest and internal organs of both of them got damaged due to the impact of the accident," he said.

As per the Hyderabad Traffic Police website, three challans were pending against the registration number of the vehicle on the charge of over-speeding since January this year.

The vehicle is registered in the name of NSPIRA Management Services Pvt Ltd.
