City-based National Institute of Nutrition (NIN) is going to establish 'model rural health research units' in various parts of the country by collaborating with medical colleges, an official said today.
"The initiative is in tune with the strategy of the Department of Health Research to take medical research to the rural areas," NIN Director in-charge Dr Kalpagam Polasa said.
It also aims to ensure an interface between the new technology developers (researchers in the Medical Institutions, State or Centre), health systems operators (Centre or State health services) and the beneficiaries (communities in rural areas) and ensure the much needed geographical spread of health research infrastructure in the country, Kalpagam Polasa said.
As a part of this initiative, NIN is proposing to mentor SV Medical College, Tirupati. A work plan to this effect has already been prepared after an MoU was signed with Health Department of Andhra Pradesh government, she said.
