AP polls: YSRCP, TDP workers clash in Kadapa

At least 13 activists of TDP and YSR Congress Party were injured in a clash outside Machunur polling station in the district during the second and final phase of elections to local bodies in Andhra Pradesh today, police said.

The trouble started when Machunur villagers raised objection to their counterparts from Choutupalli village over casting their vote at the polling station, police said.

Soon, the two groups comprising YSRCP and TDP workers became violent and attacked each other with stones and sticks, they said.

Police lathicharged the mob to control the situation and additional forces were summoned from Mydukur to ensure peaceful polling at the venue.
 

Polling was held across Andhra Pradesh for 536 Zilla Parishad Territorial Constituencies (ZPTC) and 7,975 Mandal Parishad Territorial Constituencies (MPTC) in the second and last phase.

A case was registered in Pendlimarri police station in this regard.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident, a TDP supporter was injured at Peddanapadu polling station under Veerapunayunipalli mandal in a clash between two groups.

At Moillakalava polling station, a 75-year-old woman died after casting her vote, police said.

The deceased identified as Venkatamma belonged to Middemedapalli village.

"After casting her vote at 11.30 AM, she came out of the polling station and collapsed. She died on her way to hospital," police said, adding the cause of her death is not known yet.
