Andhra Pradesh government today set up a body to empower women and also work towards elimination of poverty and improvement in human development indicators of the state.
Andhra Pradesh Mahila Sadhikara Samstha or APMSS (AP Women's Empowerment Corporation) will work on programmes and activities for poverty elimination in both rural and urban areas, an official release said here.
The Corporation has been registered with a corpus of Rs 1 crore and will be anchored in Department of Rural Development, which will be reconfigured as Department for Empowerment and Poverty Elimination, it said.
Besides women's empowerment, APMSS will focus on activities like social mobilisation, community development, capacity enhancement, access to and management of credit, skill, knowledge and technology transfer, access to improved health, nutrition and education services, among others.
