Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu today directed officials to work for making the upcoming 'Pushkaram' (Kumbh Mela) on Godavari river a grand success and in a way that promotes Telugu culture and heritage.

He ordered officials to ensure that roads, sanitation, construction of ghats and renovation of temples are done within the stipulated time, a Government release said.

Naidu said the Government is providing Rs 1,000 crore towards organising and completing works related to 'Pushkaram' which begins in July.

The Chief Minister has directed officials to repair all roads leading to Rajahmundry (the main centre of Pushkaram in view of river's size and history) and also immediately revamp its airport.

He suggested officials to study the blueprint from the last 'Pushkaram' (held 12 years ago) and implement it as planned. The last 'Pushkaram' (held during Naidu's previous tenure as Chief Minister) was a huge success, he recalled.
