After the Andhra Pradesh government officials, it will now be the turn of farmers to learn from Singapore how to "develop" their plots.

The AP Capital Region Development Authority (APCRDA) will herd about 100 farmers from Amaravati, who parted with their lands for the capital city development, to Singapore in three batches to enable them "to study how to develop the plots (residential and commercial) they got back (in lieu of the farm land)".

Bureaucrats of the state government and several lower-level officials of the CRDA had visited Singapore and other countries in the last three years "to study" the development process but the capital development actually hasn't taken off yet.

Hundreds of farmers gave up their farm land for the capital development under the Land Pooling Scheme.

The state government, in return, gave certain square yards of commercial and residential plots in proportion to each acre of land.

"We are providing an opportunity to interested farmers to visit Singapore and see the developments there. The main aim of this tour is to enable the farmers learn from Singapore how to develop their plots," the CRDA said in a release.

The visit, the CRDA feels, will create an awareness among farmers on urban infrastructure planning and development undertaken by the Singapore government.

The farmers will have to bear the to and fro flight charges, visa fee and insurance, the CRDA said.

Each batch of farmers will be taken on a three-night/four-day trip with the first trip from October 22, the second from November 5 and the last from November 19.

The CRDA would provide for the farmers' stay in Singapore and also local transportation, the release said.

Farmers interested in undertaking the visit should submit their applications by October 5, the CRDA said, adding that the visitors would be chosen through a draw of lots if the number of applicants is high.
