In a bid to leave its footprint beyond Poorvanchal (eastern Uttar Pradesh), the Apna Dal (Sonelal) has undertaken a membership drive on a wider scale.

"The main objective of this membership drive is to make an effort to expand the party beyond the geographical boundary of eastern UP. Apna Dal(S) has moved away from being a party of a particular caste, and has become a party of 'sarva samaj' (covering all sections of society)," Brijendra Pratap Singh, national spokesperson of AD(S), said.

He said people from different sections of the society, including students and farmers, are taking membership of the party.

"Party's office bearers are camping in different districts of the state to expedite the membership drive. Some of the districts where the party office bearers are camping include Basti, Bareilly, Gonda, Saharanpur, Meerut, Aligarh, Pilibhit, Badaun, Agra, Mainpuri, Etawah and Mainpuri," he said.

Spokesperson of party's UP unit, Arvind Sharma, said, "The party will organise Swabhimaan Rally on July 2 on the occasion of the birth anniversary of party founder Sonelal Patel in Varanasi.
