Apollo Hospitals today said it has signed a pact with Stanford University for the Stanford South Asian Translational Heart Initiative (SAATHI) to help reduce cardiovascular mortality in South Asians.
The overall objective behind the initiative was "to reduce cardiovascular mortality in South Asians," a hospital release said adding the MoU was signed recently.
Together, Apollo and the varsity would also attempt to delve deeper into the causes associated with cardiovascular risk in diabetic and prediabetic South Asians, it said.
A study, as part of the initiative, will capture data on prediabetes and insulin resistance, help physicians understand early patterns of glycemic imbalance, epigenetic impact on genetically similar populations, and achieve targeted lifestyle and medical therapy. Studies have indicated that South Asians are more prone to cardiovascular diseases, it said.
