Apple today showcased the largest iPad the company has made so far, as part of significant upgrades to the computer giant's products.

At a packed event in San Francisco, the company announced the 12.9 inch iPad Pro, the largest iPad Apple has ever made.

The iPad Pro comes a smart keyboard and a stylus, dubbed the 'Apple Pencil'. It will also run Microsoft and Adobe productivity applications.

It comes with a starting price point of USD 799 for 32GB, USD 949 for the 128GB. The pencil priced at USD 99 will be available in November.

"Today we have the biggest news in iPad since the iPad," Cook said. On the iPhone, Cook said the iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus are the "most advanced iPhone and most advanced smartphone in the world. The only thing that has changed is everything," he said.

The new Apple TV features an App Store, a new OS (called tvOS), Siri and gaming support, universal content search, and a revamped remote with a Siri button and glass touchpad.

Siri is emphasised - among other things, it can be used to control content, navigate and pull up info related (and unrelated) to a show, Cook said.

"We believe the future of television is apps," Cook said.

"The television experience has been virtually standing still while innovation in the mobile space has been racing ahead. Today, we are going to do something about that," he added.

The iPad Mini 4 has also been announced and is said to feature the iPad Air 2's internals in a smaller form factor, and starts at USD 399.

The iPad Mini 2's price has been cut by USD 30 to USD 269; the Air and Air 2 still respectively start at USD 399 and USD 499.

Microsoft exec Kirk Konigsbauer appeared on stage at Apple's event, demoing the use of Office iOS apps on an iPad Pro for corporate viewers.

Adobe executive Eric Snowden also appeared, pitching creative pros on the ability to do advanced photo-editing on the Pro Adobe apps.

The 32GB Wi-Fi-only iPad Pro will sell for USD 799. The Smart Keyboard and Pencil accessories will respectively go for USD 169 and USD 99.
