Apple, which had been relying on Google's Maps application ever since the tech firm launched the very first version of the iPhone in 2007, has unveiled its own operating system --iOS6- for its iPad, iPhone and iPod users

Unveiling its new operating system iOS6 in Worldwide Developers Conference in San Francisco, Apple said that application would be available from this fall.

Meanwhile, Apple also revealed a new 15-inch MacBook Pro featuring a Retina display. The MacBook Pro would be available in the price range of USD 2,199 and USD 2,799.

Apple, in a late night statement yesterday, said new iOS 6 features include "an all new Maps app with Apple-designed cartography, turn-by-turn navigation and an amazing new Flyover view."

In addition, Apple has expanded the features of its Siri application, which include support for more languages, easy access to sports scores, restaurant recommendations and movie listings.

Apple, which is up against devices powered by Google's Android operating system, would not require Google programme for its main maps application.

"We can't wait for hundreds of millions of iOS users to experience the incredible new features in iOS 6 including the new Maps app, expanded Siri support, deep Facebook integration, shared photo streams and the innovative new Passbook app," Apple Senior Vice President (iOS Software) Scott Forstall said.

Apple-developed Maps app would guide you to your destination with spoken directions. It also keeps the users updated on traffic information and informs about the time it would take to reach the destinations along with informing about alternate routes if traffic conditions change significantly.

Apple's next generation MacBook Pro features a 15.4-inch screen and an ultrabook-rivaling height of 0.71 inches and weight of 4.5 pounds.

"The MacBook Pro with Retina display pushes the limits of performance and portability like no other notebook," Apple CEO Tim Cook said.
