The appointment of seven more Chief Parliamentary Secretaries (CPS) by Shiromani Akali Dal government is just a "joke" with the democratic system and is unconstitutional, Leader of opposition Charanjit Singh Channi alleged here today.

The total tally goes to 25 CPSs, which is totally unconstitutional, he claimed.

Channi said the army of 25 CPS actually sits idle and does not contribute for the betterment of the state.

No official work or file is ever sent to these CPS and the government should revert it, the opposition leader said.

"Moreover, government is financially bankrupt. Under these circumstances, appointing more CPS shows the real face of Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal that how much they are actually concerned about the pain of Punjab," he said.

Channi said that the assembly elections are not far and the Badals have "smelled a big revolt" in the party.

Just to minimize it and avoid the harassment, the CM and the Deputy CM have gone for this exercise of expansion, just trying to keep their flock together, the leader said.
