A delegation of Indian Appellate Tribunal for Electricity (APTEL) is in the US to forge a possible partnership with America's utility regulatory bodies for sharing best practices and latest advances to develop India's power sector.
The Electricity Appellate comprising Justice M Karpaga Vinayagam, Chairperson and Rakesh Nath, Technical Member met with Philip Jones, President of United States National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners (NARUC).
Justice Vinayagam explained the status of development of Indian Power Sector and the challenges being faced to Jones who showed keen interest in the development of the India's power sector.
The delegation is in the US to attend the summer meeting of National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners (NARUC) being held at Denver, Colorado from 20th to 24th July.
The APTEL delegation is visiting the US at the invitation of Chair of National Regulatory Research Institute (NRRI).
NRRI is an independent non-profit corporation which serves as a research arm to NARUC and its mission is to serve utility Regulators by providing and disseminating relevant, high quality research that provides the analytical framework and practice tools necessary to improve their public interest decision making.
Justice Vinayagam told Jones the role of Appellate Authority that was constituted under the Electricity Act, 2003 to hear the appeals against the orders of the Central and State Electricity Regulatory Commissions.
Several presentations of research papers on various topics relating to electricity and environment were also made.
The APTEL delegation is also visiting Washington to have discussions with the Commissioners of Columbia Public Service Commission on issues of mutual interest.
