Expelled Trinamool Congress strongman and former MLA Arabul Islam was remanded to five days police custody by a court here.
Arabul was produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate Madhumita Roy's court today, which remanded him to the police custody.
The former TMC MLA was arrested from the New Town area, the emerging satellite township near Kolkata yesterday, for his alleged involvement in an extortion case.
Arabul, who had often put the party in embarrassing situations, was expelled by the TMC in October last year after two persons were killed following an intra-party clash at Bhangor in South 24-Parganas district in the same month.
