Archer from Meghalaya tops in tournament in Delhi

In a first in the North East, a secondary school student from Meghalaya topped the national ranking in compound bow archery tournament in U-17 category during the recently concluded tourney in Delhi.

Parvati Nair, a class VIII student of Army Public School, Happy Valley here received the top rank of under 17 years girls category in the recently concluded National Ranking Archery Tournament held at New Delhi between February 12-16, Defence spokesperson Group Captain Amit Mahajan said today.

Nair represented the state in the tournament where she was awarded a cash prize Rs 10,000 by the Archery Association of India.
 

In the U-22 (junior) category, Nair was placed second and bagged cash amounting to Rs 12,000. Even in the senior category she was ranked 10th.

Nair was trained for seven months at the 58 Gorkha Training Centre in the state capital.

The Archery node at GTC provided guidance and coaching to the young archer.
