In a surprising incident, the name of this year's West Bengal Higher Secondary examination topper Archisman Panigrahi appeared on top of the Jadavpur University merit list in three subjects though Archisman denied he had ever applied to the varsity.
"Despite similarity in name, neither the marks given beside my name nor my date of birth tallied with the actual mark I got. And most importantly I had not applied for admission to JU," Archisman told media last evening and claimed he has already informed the university authorities about it.
Archisman said his name came up in the list for physics, chemistry and mathematics and he came to know about it after being informed by a friend.

A JU teacher said while Archisman had got 496 marks as they had read in media reports after HS results were out, in the JU merit list the person having the same name is seen having secured 400 marks.
"It is also not unusual to have two persons sharing same name and having passed Higher Secondary in same year. But let there be probe," the teacher said.
