Ninety of the 104 wards under the North Delhi Municipal Corporation have been declared open defecation-free and the rest will be made ODF under 'Swachh Bharat' by the end of this year, the mayor of the civic body today said.
The NDMC has proposed to construct nine community toilet complexes having facility of 180 seats in Sawda-Ghevra, Bawana and Nareala area. The work has already been initiated and it is expected to be completed by October, North Delhi Mayor Preety Agarwal said.
In a statement by the NDMC, she said the corporation is also coordinating with other agencies for the purpose.

"DUSIB (Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board) is also constructing facilities in NDMC areas near slums, and it is hoped that total work would be completed by December 31," the statement said.
Municipal Commissioner Praveen Gupta said NDMC's sanitation facilities include 499 community toilet complexes, 1,163 urinals, and 41 toilets reserved for women. Besides, 318 waterless urinals are being made operational after essential repair and maintenance, he said.
Gupta said the NDMC has started working on providing additional facility of 302 toilet seats, out of which 112 seats have already been constructed.
The commissioner said construction of 135 toilet seats is underway in 27 toilets on 'build-operate-transfer' basis. These are likely to be completed by September.
Twenty mobile toilets having 200 seats are also being procured for usage during rallies, public gatherings and other social events.
Permanent facilities will come up in open defecation- prone areas, the civic body said.
