Airports across the country have begun a cleanliness drive as part of the government's 'Clean India' campaign, with Civil Aviation Minister Ashok Gajapathi Raju today saying this campaign should be continued and not taken as tokenism.

The drive has been launched at all airports of the Airports Authority of India (AAI) with focussed emphasis on 17 airports, including those at Amritsar, Leh, Jammu, Chandigarh, Dehradun and Bhubaneshwar, an AAI statement said.

The Minister and top officials, including Civil Aviation Secretary V Somasundaran, launched the drive at the Ministry headquarters Rajiv Gandhi Bhavan here, which also houses the AAI head office.

Observing that the cleanliness drive was intended to sensitise everyone to work towards achieving clean India, Raju said a clean environment enhances productivity and efficiency, it said.
