Armistice Day observed in Puducherry

The 97th Armistice Day marking the end of World War I (1914-1918) was observed in Puducherry, a former French colony, today.

It was on this day in November 1918 that an Armstice Agreement was inked between the allies of the First World War and Germany for cessation of hostilities.

Secretary to government A Muthamma, French Consul General in Puducherry Phillipe Janvier Kamiyama, Defence Attache in French Embassy in New Delhi Colonel UGO Frederic, Deputy Consul General of Germany in Chennai Wolfgang Muller were among those who paid homage at the statue of 'Unknown Soldier' on the premises of War Memorial maintained by French government here
 

Silence was observed in memory of those who laid down lives in the First World War.

The band wing of Puducherry police played national songs of India and France on the occasion.
