Arms, cash robbed from Army officers' house

Robbers sneaked into the house of a senior Army official and took away arms and ammunition along with Rs 1.5 lakh cash, police said today.

Thieves struck at the residence of Lieutenant General Ranbir Singh of Assam Rifles at village Latifpur on the intervening night of May 4 and 5 and fled with a .12 bore rifle, one .12 bore double barrel gun, one .2.2 rifle, 75 live cartridges and cash, police said.

While Ranbir is posted outside, his brother Sukhbir Singh and sister-in-law Sumitra were residing at the house.

On the night of the incident, Sumitra was with domestic help Tannu as Sukhbir Singh had gone to Himachal Pradesh for some work.
 

When she woke up in the morning, she found that some thieves had broke opened the room where the fire arms and cash were kept.

While the .12 bore rile was licenced in the name of Sukhbir Singh, the .12 bore double barrel gun and .2.2 rifle were issued in the name of Ranbir Singh.

A case under various sections of the IPC has been lodged and efforts are on to trace the accused.
