An arms dealer was arrested from Bhatar in Burdwan district today as the CID claimed to have busted an illegal arms racket in the district.
A district police officer said Manik Malik was arrested by a four member team of CID officers who masqueraded as customers and laid a trap at Bhatar area.
As he arrived at the appointed spot with the consignment of arms, he was arrested and two improvised seven mm pistols and two cartridge shells found in his possession.
The accused hailed from Purbasthali area of the district and was reportedly one of the kingpins of a racket of countrymade firearms including sophisticated Munger-type pistols and revolvers in the district, the officer said.
