A 24-year-old resident of Uttar Pradesh was arrested here for allegedly smuggling illegal arms into Delhi and NCR after five such weapons were recovered from a specially crafted cavity in his SUV's back door.
Gautam alias Dhollu, a resident of Mainpuri in UP, was arrested on Sunday after a tip off that he would be coming via Outer Ring road, Bhalaswa Dairy in a white Mahindra Bolero SUV to deliver a consignment of arms, Delhi Police said today.
"Following the information, a trap was laid and Gautam, who was driving the Bolero, was apprehended. Nothing seemed suspicious during initial search of the vehicle. However, on a closer look, the inner panel of its back door seemed abnormal and on removing it, three sophisticated semi-automatic pistols of 7.65 mm and two country-made pistols of 12 bore were recovered from its cavity," said ACP (Crime) Ravindra Yadav.

Gautam was arrested and a case under Arms Act was registered against him.
"On sustained interrogation, it was revealed that the accused Gautam along with one Devendra is involved in supplying illegal weapons in Delhi and NCR as well as in the Bhind and Morena districts of Madhya Pradesh," said Yadav.
It is suspected that these illegal weapons is used by criminals of Delhi and NCR, police said.
Gautam informed the police that he and his accomplice Devendra had earlier been arrested on March 18 in MP's Bhind along with illicit arms.
He further disclosed that the recovered illicit arms were meant for supply to one Sonu a resident of Alipur in Delhi.
"We are on the trail of other accomplices and more recoveries and arrests may take place," police said.
