The CID busted an arms racket by unearthing a small gun factory, recovered firearms, bombs and ammunition at Kalyani in Nadia district and arrested eight persons in this connection.

Acting on a tip-off, CID conducted raids at Lichutala and surrounding areas and recovered 25 country-made pistols, live ammunition and 100 crude bombs from a house during a raid which started late last night and continued till this morning, a CID officer said today.

Eight persons allegedly running the racket were arrested during the raid, he said.

Asked whether the racket has any connection with those arrested for allegedly storing explosives in Murshidabad and Kolkata recently, the CID officer said, "It seems these people are criminals trying to make money selling country-made arms and ammunition.

"We do not think they have any connection with those arrested in the explosive-haul cases, but we are investigating to be totally sure about it," he said.
