Army today celebrated 45th Nagi day in the memory of soldiers, who laid down their lives during the famous Battle of Nagi on December 27-28, 1971, in Rajasthan's Sriganganagar district.

A wreath laying ceremony was held at the war memorial in Nagi village followed by a victory rally in Karanpur. Later Army officers interacted with residents of Karanpur and Nagi village who were present during the war, a defence spokesperson said.

Nagi is a small village in Sri Karanpur tehsil, located close to the Indo-Pak border.

The victory rally conducted by Amogh division witnessed participation of military personnel and government officials, students and locals.

The battle was fought 10 days after announcement of the ceasefire of Indo-Pak war wherein brave action by Indian soldiers at Nagi thwarted the nefarious designs of Pakistan Army to capture Indian territory in Nagi village.

In the ensuing battle, a total of 21 Indian soldiers including three officers made the supreme sacrifice.
