The Army and the residents in this frontier town today celebrated 'Nowshera day' to commemorate the sacrifice of martyrs who laid their lives while fighting Pakistani intruders in 1947.
"Every year Nowshera day is celebrated on February 6 to commemorate the sacrifice made by Naik Jadunath Singh and other martyrs who laid their lives while fighting Pakistani raiders during the 1947-48 operations," defense spokesman Lt Col Manish Mehta said.
The event started with General Officer-in-Commanding-in Chief of Udhampur-based Army's Northen Command, Lt Gen D S Hooda laying the wreath on the memorial of Naik Jadunath.

On the occasion, army also extended financial assistance to the victims of the devastating floods of last year.
"Financial help was extended to the flood victims and also the land mine blast victims," Mehta said.
