Army chief meets Omar, discusses security scenario in J-K

Army Chief General Bikram Singh today called on Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah here and briefed him about various aspects of infiltration from across the Line of Control (LoC) and overall security scenario in the state.

Gen Singh, who was on a two-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir, called on Omar at his residence here this morning and had discussions about security issues of the state, official sources said.

"The Chief Minister and Chief of the Army Staff discussed issues concerning the internal and external security situation," the sources said.

They said the Army Chief informed Omar about the various aspects of infiltration from across the LoC, and the overall security scenario in the state.
 

Omar and Gen Singh also discussed issues relating to the security aspects of the ongoing Amarnath Yatra, they said.

The 55-day yatra to the holy cave shrine of Amarnath in south Kashmir commenced on June 28. So far, over 2.25 lakh pilgrims have paid obeisance at the shrine housing the naturally formed ice-Shivlingam.
