Army Chief Gen. Bipin Rawat today paid tribute to Sepoy T K Reddy, who was killed in Pakistani firing on forward areas along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district.

The Army held a wreath-laying ceremony at the Palam Air Base here, where Gen. Rawat and other top army officials paid homage to the fallen soldier.

Gen. Rawat hailed Reddy for his supreme sacrifice for the nation, a senior army official said.

Reddy, 21, belonged to Obulapuram village in Andhra Pradesh's Prakasam district. He is survived by his mother.

"He had joined the army about two years ago," the official said.

During the firing, Defence Porter Mohd Zahir (22) also died after he suffered serious injuries.

Also, in a solemn wreath-laying ceremony at Rajouri in Jammu and Kashmir, GoC of Ace of Spades Division and other military dignitaries paid their respects.

Wreaths were also laid on behalf of the GOC-in-C Northern Command and GOC White Knight Corps.

"Sepoy T K Reddy was a brave and sincere soldier. The nation will always remain indebted to him for the supreme sacrifice and devotion to duty," a defence spokesman said in Jammu.
