In the wake of the death of three labourers in a mine blast in Rajouri last week, the army today conducted a mine awareness meeting to educate locals and labourers on the identification of the mines.
"A mine awareness meeting was organised by Rashtriya Rifle Battalion deployed at Jhangar for the locals and the labourers from outside the state to create an awareness on identification of mines," Jammu-based defense spokesman Lt Col Manish Mehta said.
He said that the meeting was to educate the locals and labourers who are living and working in close proximity of old mine fields in the area.
The initiative was taken by the Army after the recent incident of Saryah village where three labourers from Rae Beriely district in Uttar Pradesh died while they were trying to lift the "unidentified object" due to their ignorance.
