The Army today dedicated to nation the 'Prerna Sthal', a commemorative monument built to honour the sacrifice of its soldiers.
Lt Gen K J Singh, GOC-in-C, Western Command laid the inaugural wreath and observed a two-minute silence as a mark of respect to the martyrs at the newly constructed 'Prerna Sthal' here, a defence release said.
The monument was dedicated to the nation amidst musical notes being played by the buglers of the 'Last Post' from the roof top of the historical Hussainiwala railway station.

Addressing the audience, Lt Gen Singh said the monument will keep reminding us all the supreme sacrifices made by the soldiers of Indian Army and will continue to inspire us to give our best to the nation.
On this day, dedicated to the remembrance of the gallant soldiers, he also visited the war memorial at Asal Uttar to pay homage to Param Vir Chakra CQMH Abdul Hamid, who attained martyrdom in Indo-Pak War in the year 1965.
'Prerna Sthal' encompasses seven pillars made of sandstone with copper finish metallic inscription plaques. The central pillar relatively larger in size, carries a portrait of Shaheed Bhagat Singh.
The first of the six smaller ancillary pillars has motivational verses scripted on it in honour of Shaheed Sardar Bhagat Singh and remaining five pillars narrate in brief the battles fought in this place as well as the names of martyrs and details of Gallantry Awards, the release said.
Lt Gen N P S Hira, GOC Vajra Corps and Maj Gen S C Meston, GOC, Golden Arrow Division were present on the occasion along with a large number of Army personnel, veterans and civil dignitaries.
