The army is on a mission to educate the youth about the ill-effects of drug abuse in the remote villages of frontier Rajouri district.

"The army has undertaken a mission to educate the local youth about the ill-effects of drug abuse and the Rashtriya Rifles battalion, under Romeo Force, conducted a lecture on drugs addiction and rehabilitation at Keri today," Jammu-based defense spokesman Lt Col Manish Mehta said.

He said the lecture encompassed the description of drugs or substances that can harm humans both mentally and physically.

"The lecture was conducted to bring awareness about causes of drug addiction and to educate the youth about drug rehabilitation," he said.

He said that the experts informed the youth that the common reasons for drug addiction was stress, depression and peer pressure.

"Many individuals resort to use of drug to forget about the pains and hardships they are facing in their families. The audience was educated that taking drugs cannot solve problems; instead it leads to low self-esteem, anxiety, loneliness unhappiness and ill health," he said.
