The Indian Army will organise a series of events next month to commemorate the valour and sacrifice of nearly 1.5 million Indian soldiers who fought in the First World War.

A special exhibition will be held showcasing pictures and memorabilia from the World War 1.

The Army has also traced the family of six Victoria Cross awardees and they would also be taking part in the exhibition.

A total of 11 soldiers from undivided India were awarded the Victoria Cross, the UK's highest military honour awarded for bravery on the battlefield.

The event will begin on March 9 with laying of wreath by President Pranab Mukhejee at Amar Jawan Jyoti.

Mukherjee will also deliver a special address at the Manekshaw Centre.
