Army flags off volunteers' tour

Army today flagged off a group of seven volunteers of a Kolkata-based adventure organisation from here.

The six thousand km excursion across the country from Kolkata to Leh has been taken by the group to express solidarity with the troops deployed in the inhospitable terrains in the Northern Command and to commemorate the 15th anniversary of Operation Vijay, a defence spokesman said here.

The volunteers reached Udhampur yesterday on the fourth day of the journey, he said.

The group would be in the state till June 26, he said adding the group was later flagged off for the onward journey in the state.
 

The group would pass through the states of West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and JK during its 26 days tour, the spokesman said.
