The officials had information that Rajeev Rajput, a havaldar posted at Command Works Engineer (Naval Work) at Navy Nagar in south Mumbai, had demanded a bribe of Rs 3,000 each from a number of applicants to rectify their mistakes in the application forms of recruitment for the post of Mate-Mason.
Rajput had also demanded Rs one lakh each from candidates to provide the question paper before their scheduled written test and Rs 1 lakh each from candidates to pass them in their interviews, they said.
However, one of the candidates approached the CBI, following which, a trap was laid on the complainant's residential premises and Rajput was caught collecting the cash.
During frisking, an application form and Rs 12,500 were found with him. The search is underway at the residential and official premises of the accused, officials said.
Rajput was produced before the Special Judge of the CBI court, which remanded him in CBI's custody till May 9.
