An army jawan and his parents have been arrested for allegedly killing his wife over dowry demands in Uttar Pradesh's Shamli district, police said today.
The incident happened in a village under Thana Bhawan police station area of the district. The family of the woman, Shivani, had filed a complaint, accusing her husband -- posted in Ladakh -- and her in-laws of strangulating her to death on Monday, and then hanging her body to show it as a case of suicide. a police officer said.
A case against four people were registered, following which the jawan, his father and mother were arrested yesterday, the officer said.
The woman's father has alleged that his daughter was being harassed for dowry. She was living with her parents for six months after disputes her in-laws, and had returned to her husband's house a few days ago, he added.
