Army man held for Chakrata robbery

An army major was arrested for his alleged involvement in a robbery, took place at the residence of a Congress leader in Chakrata here on April 13, police said today.

"Major Anand Singh, presently posted in Special Frontier Force, also known as Establishment 22, Chakrata - was arrested for planning the entire crime," officer-in-charge of the Chakrata police station Praveen Koshiari said.

Three pistols, a sharp edged weapon and ammunition were recovered form his possession, Koshiari said.

The incident took place on April 13 night when some armed men barged into the house of Congress leader and former vice chairman of Chakrata Cantonment Board Pankaj jain and looted cash and jewellery after injuring him, his wife and daughter, police said.
 

Following the incident, police arrested Mahipal and Jaideep. During the interrogation, Anand's name came up as the lynchpin, police said.
