Army officer succumbs to cardiac arrest during training

A 39-year-old Army officer hailing from Dehradun died due to cardiac arrest while participating in a training exercise in Jaisalmer district of Rajasthan.

Ordinance Corps officer, Lt Col Pankaj Sharma was near Pokhran to take part in an ongoing military exercise and he suffered a cardiac arrest and passed away yesterday, said Defence spokesperson.

The Army is making arrangements to airlift his mortal remainsto his hometown for the last rites.

The officer is survived by his wife, Avantika and a 12-year-old son.

"Sharma was a sincere and matured officer and was an expert in handling ammunition," an officer who had served with him, said.
 

Sharma was posted at Secunderabad from where he had come for the military exercise. Prior to that, he was posted near Lalgarh in Bikaner.
