With a view to empower and impart skill to women in remote villages, the Army today undertook upgradation of its women empowerment centre in Mahore in Udhampur district of Jammu and Kashmir, a defence spokesman said.
The upgradation focused on upgrading the existing facilities, procuring additional equipment, raw material and conducting on-the-job training for women, the spokesman said.
As many as 21 women from adjoining areas attended the upgradation programme and honed their skills, he said.
The spokesman said the Army women empowerment node, which was recently refurbished, would not only impart training to the women but also provide means of self-employment, where they can learn and earn from their produce.
The women were also paid honorarium and complete profit earned from sale of items, he said.
The women have appreciated the Army's effort in setting up of the centre, the spokesman said.
