A 3,500 km Desert Safari was today flagged off in Varanasi by the Mathura-based One Strike Corps of Indian Army to commemorate the Golden Jubilee Celebrations of 1965 Indo-Pak War.
The General Officer Commanding of Red Eagle division, Major Gen P C Thimmaiya flagged off the Desert Safari.
The One Strike Corps is conducting the 10-day gypsy rally on behalf of the 'Sapta Shakti' Command.
The journey began from Varanasi today and will traverse through Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Punjab and Haryana before terminating in New Delhi on August 28.
This year marks the 50th anniversary of 1965 Indo-Pak War.
The aim of the rally is to honour and memorialise the heroes of the Nation who had made supreme sacrifice during the Indo-Pak War in 1965 and also to foster spirit of adventure, team work and camaraderie, a release issued here said.
Meanwhile, a day-long dental Mela was also organised today at Yodha Institute by One Corps Dental Unit under the aegis of Army Wives Welfare Association of One Strike in the Mathura Cantonment.
"The main thrust of the mela was to create awareness about various dental diseases and their prevention," an officer of the Corps said.
