Army today launched an operation to rescue people from hundreds of villages flooded due to heavy rain, while rescue teams evacuated about 2,000 people to safety.
"The Chinar Corps launched Operation Sahayata (help) to rescue people from hundreds of villages inundated due to incessant rains and overflowing of river Jhelum," an army spokesman said.
He said 40 columns of army personnel were deployed in various parts of the valley.
"Nearly 2,000 people were rescued during the day-long operations," he added.
