Army wives and wards will now be provided training in areas like IT, beauty and wellness, apparel and handicraft at an Army Skill Training Centre here.
In all, 10 centres have been planned across the country under a pilot project, with the first one being inaugurated in the national capital today.
On successful completion of their respective courses, trainees will get a National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) certificate. The training partner will make efforts to place them suitably in various organisations or assist them in self-employment, NSDC said in a statement.
The pilot project to skill Indian Army spouses and wards with linkages to NSDC will make all those undergoing training eligible for being sponsored under the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana scheme.
In the initial phase, courses in IT and IT enabled services, beauty and wellness, apparel and handicraft sectors will be conducted by an NSDC-affiliated training partner.
Namita Suhag, president, Army Wives Welfare Association (AWWA) inaugurated the first Army Skill Training Centre (ASTC) today in the presence of Union Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Minister Rajiv Pratap Rudy, Chief of Army Staff Gen Dalbir Singh and other officials, the statement added.
