Around 138 pc growth in e-tourist visa arrivals in June

Over 36,900 people arrived in India on e-tourist visa in June as compared to 15,557 during the corresponding month last year, a growth of nearly 138 per cent.

Among the countries availing e-tourist visa facility, the USA continues to occupy the top slot, followed by the UK and China, the Union Tourism Ministry said in a statement.

"A total of 36,982 tourists arrived in June on e-tourist visa as compared to 15,557 during the month of June, 2015 registering a growth of 137.7 per cent," it said.

Launched on November 27, 2014, the facility was initially available for citizens of 113 countries arriving at 16 airports in India till February 25. It was extended for citizens of 37 more countries from February 26.
 

During January-June, a total of 4,71,909 tourist arrived on e-tourist visa as compared to 1,26,214 tourists during January-June 2015, registering a growth of 273.9 per cent.

Among the top 10 source countries availing the facility in June, the US' share was maximum with 23.22 per cent, followed by the UK (14.16 per cent), China (6.91 per cent), Australia (5.59 per cent), France (4.10 per cent) and Germany (4.03 per cent).

The share of Canada was 4.02 per cent, while that of Singapore 2.62 per cent, Malaysia 2.53 per cent and Spain 2.4 per cent.
