Around 18 kg silver, Rs 1.98 cash seized in poll-bound UP

Around 18 kg silver and Rs 1.98 lakh cash have been seized from two cars during checking of vehicles in this district, an offical said today.

Rs 1.98 lakh in cash was seized form a vehicle this morning in Vrindavan, while 17.7 kg silver was seized from an abandoned car on Mathura Road at Goverdhan in this district yesterday afternoon, Additional District Magistrate and in-charge of the flying-squad here Ravindra Kumar said.

Following imposition of the Model Code of Conduct in the poll-bound Uttar Pradesh, any cash beyond Rs 50,000 could be subjected to scrutiny by EC nominated flying squads and the individual or entity carrying the amount should furnish documents in this regard.
