Only around five TMC water is available for irrigation and power generation in Koyna dam, officials said today.

As of today, the dam holds 12.47 TMC water, of which 7.35 TMC is dead stock and cannot be used, Koyna dam management officials said.

The water level stood at 2034.08 feet. Water is being utilised mainly for irrigation and supply of drinking water through Koyna river for western Maharashtra, and for power generation through Vashishti river in Konkan region, they said.

Since no rain has been recorded in the area so far, no water has been received in the catchment area of the dam, the officials said, adding the water can be utilised till July, if no emergency power generation is required.

Koyna dam contributes majorly to power production in Maharashtra.
