Around 720 booked for violation of odd-even scheme

As many as 720 people were fined today for violating the car-rationing 'odd-even' scheme.

On the eighth day of implementing the scheme, police said they have penalised 136 motorists for violating the vehicular restriction norms as against yesterday's figure of 95.

The enforcement teams of the government's transport department fined around 46 motorists, while revenue department booked 538 people.

Yesterday, the authorities had booked 662 violators of the scheme, which is likely stay in force till January 15.

Delhi Metro officials said the ridership saw a jump of over 19,73,267 than last Friday with 19,08,495 commuters using the services as on 8 PM today.
 

Ridership of Yellow Line and Blue Line, the busiest corridors, were 7,30,388 and 7,29,372 respectively.

The odd-even scheme brought by the AAP government as part of a pilot plan to cut air pollution in the city was rolled out on January 1. The rules apply only from Monday to Saturday. January 3, being a Sunday, did not fall under the ambit of the new norm.
