The Delhi government has "saved around Rs 12 crore" in constructing the flyover at Mukundpur Chowk, set to be inaugurated tomorrow, which will complete the 22.5 km signal-free corridor between Vikaspuri and Wazirabad, an official said.

Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia will inaugurate the 900 metre-long flyover. The entire stretch will bring down the travel time between between the two points from about one hour 15 minutes to around half-an-hour.

Its construction started in 2013 with an estimated cost of Rs 62 crore. But, it has been completed within the cost of Rs 50 crore, the government official said.

The six-lane-flyover is supported on twin piers. The road below has six lanes as well, flanked by cycle tracks, footpath and a green belt.

The Mukundpur intersection sees around 1.75 lakh vehicles per day and each vehicle will save at least four minutes due to it being thrown open.

"It will lead to huge savings in terms of man-hour, fuel and lesser CO2 emission. This is equivalent to saving of approximately Rs 56 crore per year. Therefore, the cost of the project will be recovered in less than one year," the official claimed.

The entire corridor has three elevated stretches and three flyovers. The elevated corridors stretch from Vikaspuri to Meera Bagh, Mangolpuri to Madhuban Chowk and Madhuban Chowk to Mukarba Chowk.
