After two-month-long summer vacation, schools in Kerala reopened today with around three lakh tiny tots initiated into the world of learning.
Colourful admission festivals -'praveshanotsavams'- were organised across the state to welcome the newcomers to the standard one.
A host of student-friendly programmes and schemes to improve quality of education would be implemented during the current academic year, a top education department official said.

The state level inauguration of 'Praveshanotsavam' was held at Thrikkulam Govt School in Malappuram.
Education Minister P K Abdu Rabb presided and Minister for Industries P K Kunhalikutty inaugurated the function.
Over 12000, schools are there in the government, aided and unaided sectors in the state. Total number of school-going students in the state would come to around 40 lakhs.
The "pravesanotsavam" programmes were coordinated by the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan.
The distribution of free learning material to 25 lakh students and free uniforms to eight lakh school children would form part of education package to be implemented under the SSA scheme in 2014-15.
