Arrangements be made for proper worship at temple: Officials

The district administration today said all arrangements would be made to devotees for proper worship at the Kannagi temple in Mangala Medu in Kerala's Idukki district on May 10.

They would be provide with water, medical facility and security for the worship, District Collector Venkatachalam told at a meeting prior to the festival participated in the meeting attended by the various officials including Superintendent of police Baskar and DRO Ponnammal, Idukki district collector Gokul, Police, Forest officials and Kannagi Arakattalai (Trust).

The trust members alleged that Kerala has reduced the Chitra Pournami Festival at Kannagi temple in Mangala Medu in Idukki district, from three days to nine hours over the years.
 

Kerala was also banning various pooja items, said Arumugam Senthil, a trust member.

The temple is open to devotees only once a year during the month of April/May for the Chithrapournami celebrations. On this full moon day, priests of Tamil Nadu and Kerala conduct ritualistic prayers at the temple.

Preparations for the festival are supervised by officials of Idukki district and Theni.
