Arrangements in place to tackle any flood like situation: Pb minister

Punjab Water Resources Minister Sukhbinder Singh Sarkaria today said adequate arrangements have been made to tackle any flood like situation in the state during the monsoon season.

In view of the MeT department's heavy rain prediction over the next few days, Sarkaria said department officials have been directed to monitor the situation round the clock and that no negligence would be tolerated.

In a statement issued here, Sarkaria assured that the water resources and revenue departments would discharge their duty with utmost honesty and responsibility.

A spokesman of the department said a sum of Rs 25 crore had already been sanctioned for flood preventive works and the cleaning of drains.

 

The spokesman said that the department has deployed necessary equipment at different places for cleaning of drains and flood control rooms have been set-up at district and tehsil levels.

All the officers and employees of the department would not leave their stations without the permission of the competent authority, he said.
